This is the story of Panaiot Chankov, 23. This is a young boy who overcame something that many people do not know what it causes you. People who have monitored cerebral palsy, will say that what he has achieved is unique and that he have enormously strong will. 5 years ago, he almost did not get out of the bed. However, one day he decided to change his life by starting all kind of sports and exercices.
“Before I could not move but sports helped me a lot. There was a time that I could not move from the bed but I gradually improved myself to reach the physic I have at the moment. I believe that with appropriate methods of training and having the right people around you, others with my kind of illness can somewhat be fine. Moreover, I think the understanding of many people who suffer from this disease is absolutely wrong – they prefer to stay at home then socialize doing all kinds of stuff. I think they should go out and have social contacts, instead of feeling sorry for themselves and become prisoners of their own fears” says the young Bulgarian.
“5 years ago I started training street fitness along with my father. In the beginning it was very difficult and I could do only pull ups on the parallel bars. 3 years ago, I started to train Jiu Jitsu in a basement with one of my best friends. That became a passion of mine and recently I went to an examination for a black belt and guess what – I won it. From a period of 2 years I have been competing in street fitness contets. Besides Jiu Jitsu and street fitness, I am training karate kyokushin as I have black belt in this sport.”
Panaiot shares some painful moments from his life – he had to fight for his dignity and the respect of the others – “Yes there will always be people to make fun of you. I had one case in a school where I was trying to run, and a group of boys began to boo me, to insult me and ridiculed me. After finishing the workout I went to talk with them, and after 20-30 minutes we were just friends and those who mocked at me are my friends who train with me and help me. Just sometimes it turns out that those who make fun of you or are not familiar with your situation or have a different vision underpinned by unacceptability, can become your friends when they understand you and they seek to know you. Furthermore, they can give you the strength to go on.”
As you can see, he hasn’t set limits with which to deal, and doing things that he likes, things that make him feel good and reach new horizons. Everyone faces some obstacles in his life but for some the slope is much more steeper. However, there are people who are willing to climb every mountain to move forward. He gives everything in training and doing it from the heart.
