Kyle De Bruin realized that he has problems with his weight and need a change. He stayed motivated through the years and achieved great results by losing more than 55 kg and gaining muscle mass. Read his story:
My name is Kyle, throughout primary and high school I was always called the fat kid and it caused quite a few problems where I thought so much less of myself and this just caused me to eat more and more until one day I went as low as I could go I weighed 169kg at the age of 19 and I was getting out of breathe just bending down to tie my shoes. This upset me even more and caused my eating to escalate, until the day came where I decided I cannot live like this anymore and enough was enough, I needed to take control of myself and my life. I started by walking my dogs everyday until I could manage to run with my dogs (I had 2 huskies to they constantly pulled me) if it was not for my two Huskies Siby and Amber and their never ending energy, I would never have gained the strength to run on my own again. They constantly unknowingly encouraged me to run with them and not walk, giving me a look telling me not to be so lazy when I walked at a pace.
Next thing I knew I was 20kg down and able to run on my own and I could run further and further everyday, jogging for longer periods of time until one day I pushed myself for a 15km run non stop and to my surprise I finished it in 40 minutes, this might not sound like a lot but at the time being 150 kg it was the greatest thing I have done in my life and I knew if I could push myself from only running for 1 minute intervals on my 2km runs, anything was possible.
being in a slum not loosing more weight at 130kg I started reading men’s health magazines and doing more and more research on healthy eating and exercise and constantly learning from speaking to people that I meet and just learning what worked for my body. I realized then that I need to change my approach and I started resistance training from home. With the help of my father that bought me my first set of weights.
I ran every morning and lifted weights every evening, it wasn’t easy to stay motivated and there were so many temptations everywhere but I knew what it took to get strong enough to run 15km and I just took everything day by day. I fell of the wagon on more than one occasion due to illness and a few other reasons but every time I took a break I came back stronger and even hungrier! I lost another 5kg but gaining muscle at the same time.
As my knowledge grew I finally decided to get a gym membership and I just became obsessed. It was my escape every time I was at the gym nothing else mattered my head was silenced and I was happy it was truly my escape. I became stronger and stronger and with my strength I became happier feeling healthier being able move easier and being a lot more athletic.
Finally I achieved the one goal I set for myself from the beginning of my journey, Abs(kind of) but I am proud of them because before I couldn’t even see my toes. And now I can see my chest bone.
This definately isn’t the end of my journey and I have a lot more to achieve.
